POLYPOLY

Care is an economy. We simply forgot how to measure its value.
Picture

Polypoly is an invitation to imagine a different game.

A playable model of a regenerative culture.

Traditional board games like Monopoly were designed around competition, accumulation and scarcity. Success comes from owning, extracting and ultimately bankrupting the other players. While ingenious for its time, it reflects an economic story in which individual wealth grows at the expense of others. In an age of ecological challenges, social fragmentation and growing awareness of our interdependence, many people are asking whether we need new stories, new games and new ways to learn together.

Polypoly explores another possibility

Instead of treating land, water, forests and communities as assets to exploit, they become living systems to understand, nurture and regenerate. Players are invited to think in relationships rather than possessions, in cooperation rather than domination, and in long-term resilience rather than short-term profit.

Every choice ripples through the whole village. Healthy soil feeds the forest, clean water supports people, education strengthens community, and culture gives meaning to it all. The goal is not simply to win, but to discover that when the whole ecosystem thrives, everyone benefits. Exactly how that journey unfolds is still evolving—and perhaps that is part of the game itself.

Making Living Systems Playable

Polypoly asks a different question from most economic games: not What can I gain?,
but What becomes healthier because I was here?

Players do not simply acquire resources. They restore rivers, cultivate fertile soil, encourage biodiversity, share knowledge, repair what is broken and strengthen trust within the community. Wealth is understood not as accumulation, but as the capacity of life to flourish.

The village is built through visible actions, yet it depends on invisible foundations: roots, water systems, fertile soil, culture, memory, cooperation and relationship. By making these connections playable, Polypoly invites people to experience how living systems actually work.

A Bridge Between Two Worlds

One intriguing idea is to let Polypoly interact with the classic Monopoly board. Imagine playing the two games side by side, with "bridge cards" connecting them. Every decision made in Monopoly—buying land, building hotels, accumulating wealth—would create consequences in the living world of Polypoly. A new development might consume forests, increase water demand or reduce biodiversity, while investments in public spaces, renewable energy or community projects could strengthen the health of the village.

What If Two Games Could Talk to Each Other?

Traditional economic board games make financial decisions visible. Polypoly expands the picture by making their ecological and social consequences visible as well. By connecting the two boards, players begin to explore the relationship between economy and living systems.
The contrast becomes a powerful educational experience, inviting conversations about how the games we play reflect the worlds we create.

The Village Also Builds the Players

At first, it seems that the players are building a village. Gradually, another possibility emerges: the village is also shaping the people around the table.
As players practise cooperation, long-term thinking, generosity and shared responsibility, they begin to embody the very qualities the village needs to flourish. The transformation happens not only on the board, but within the people playing the game.

Join the Journey

Polypoly is still taking shape. It is growing through conversations, sketches, questions, experiments and the collective imagination of people who believe another way of playing—and perhaps another way of living—is possible.

If this vision resonates with you, we would love to hear your ideas. Whether you are a game designer, educator, artist, ecologist, entrepreneur, parent or simply someone who dreams of a more regenerative world, your perspective could help shape the next chapter of Polypoly.

This is more than a board game. It is an invitation to explore, to create and to imagine together. Let's build a game that helps us build a better world.
